Are you ready?

December 2, 2010

The countdown has begun…

Everyone seems to be in a crazy frenzy this time of year.  The Holiday Season starts earlier and earlier every year, making me feel like I am behind.

Wait…It’s only the beginning of December…I have time!

Relax, a bit...source unknown

Although I have started the planning, planted the paper whites, polished the silver, and sent the party invitations…

It’s about enjoying  the season…no malls…no traffic…no panic…no frenzy!

I shop at local boutiques…a plus all around.  I find unique items from local craftsmen, fabulous decorations and actually have ‘real’ conversations in these great shops!  I support small retailers , they are an amazing group of people, who work hard and bend over backwards to help.  Support your local retailers and crafts people!

This summer, I attended The League of NH Craftsmen’s Fair and found several gifts…Sarah Heimann is a gifted artist..

Black and White Vase Sarah Heimann

Her pottery is hand-thrown and then detailed with her gifted eye …amazing attention to detail…even the bottoms of the vases and inside the tea-pot lids are adorned with her natures’  images!

One of my favorite ‘haunts’ is the nearby town of Peterborough.  Depot Square has so much to offer.  The girls and I will start with a wonderful afternoon snack and beverage at Twelve Pine while picking up wine, hostess gifts and amazing goodies.

Then off across the street…

Alice Blue

My girls love Alice Blue for clothing, jewelry, scarfs & bags.

A trip to Depot Square is not complete without a stop at The Toadstool Bookshop…yes…we love to read and prefer the feel of a book in our hands over the computer, I PAD or Kindle!  Locally owned bookstores are hard to find…they carry the best books, have the best sales staffs and their own ‘book lists’.

The Sharon Arts Center Gallery Shop

I always can find fabulous art and handcrafts at the Sharon Art Center.

Bowerbird and Friends

Bowerbird and Friends is my personal favorite, where I can find beautiful decorations, unique gifts and an antique or two for Mrs. Claus!

Paper and Roses

For beautiful wrapping paper, unique cards and invitations, Paper and Roses is a ‘must stop’.

The Red Chair

The Red Chair is also a ‘Mrs. Claus place’, where I am sure to find something for my Christmas list.  This year it’s the Swedish secretary …but the only place it would fit in my house is where Mr. Claus has his recliner…oh well, a girl can dream!

This is the time of year to make wishes and dreams come true…local food pantries, Santa’s Workshops and charity organizations can all use our help!  It’s a tough year for many.  In New England, with the heating season just begun, a donation of a tank of oil is always a welcome gift for those in need.

Our furry friends always need a sponsor too…donate to local ‘no kill’ shelters…please!

Happiest of Holiday wishes to you all with Love from Murphy and Lexus!

And lastly, take care of yourselves over this holiday season…

Relax, enjoy festivities (the tree lighting ceremonies are this weekend!), cherish friends and stay healthy!

Happy Holidays with love…
